Best of Both - Giving Birth in a Public Hospital?
Are you planning to give birth in a public hospital but fear the local
system might not suit your needs? Join the Annerley ´Best of
Both´package for a convenient and supportive passage through the
government system. In most cases you will only need to visit the public
hospital twice.
In the package you will enjoy your antenatal checkups at Annerley in a private 6x30 minute sessions with one of our professional midwives. Various checks including urine testing, blood pressure and listening to the fetal heartbeat are made together with an assessment of the baby´s size and position, and the emotional and physical wellbeing of the mother is ensured.
Early in the pregnancy our clients are tested for GBS (strep B vaginal stroke), and at the 28th week we perform an HB (iron) test and the glucose challenge test. If complications are detected the mother is referred to one of our obstetricians. During the pregnancy one to two scans are recommended and we will advise and book such care with one of our listed doctors, making sure that the booking is at a convenient time for you. If more support is needed during pregnancy and birth, free phone consultations are offered for the ´Best of Both´members. After birth, one lactation visit to the hospital is included plus a PKU blood test for the baby's safety.
As part of the package you will learn about common practices within the government hospitals and how to get the best out of the system. We will help you produce a realistic birth plan and help you present it to the hospital. As a result, you will enjoy personal midwife care where you will get the best out of both private practice and the public hospital service.
For further care, we suggest members consider additional packages such as antenatal classes, midwifery care during labour at home, and home visit packages for after the birth.
